JERWIN Ancajas makes the first defense of his International Boxing Federation junior bantamweight title Sunday night when he goes up against Jose Alfredo Rodriguez of Mexico at the Cotai, Arena in Macau.
The 12-round match marks the return of the Filipino champ in the ring after winning the championship belt last September with an impressive unanimous decision win over McJoe Arroyo of Puerto Rico.
Ancajas tipped in at 114 lbs. while Rodriguex came at 114.5 lbs during Saturday’s official weigh-in at the Wynn Palace.
The 25-year-old native of Panabo City, Davao del Norte, who fights out of the MP Promotions, holds a record of 25-1-1, with 16 KOs. He’s currently on a 12-fight winning streak after last losing in 2012 following a 10-round majority decision against Mark Anthony Geraldo at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.
He is currently just three of the reigning Filipino world champion after Pacquiao (WBO welterweight) and Marlon Tapales (WBO bantamweight).
Rodriguez, 27, holds a 35-4 record, 19 of them coming by way of knockouts.
