JERWIN Ancajas scored a technical knockout win over Mexican Jose Alfredo Rodriguez Sunday night to retain his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight crown at the Cotai Arena in Macau.
The 25-year-old Filipino dominated the 12-round bout and forced his Mexican challenger to quit on his corner before the start of the eighth round. Rodriguez cited a shoulder injury for failing to continue the fight.
It was the first defense of Ancajas of the crown he wrested from Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo with a 12-round unanimous decision at the Philippine Marine gym.
Ancajas said he managed to effectively neutralize the jabs and straights of Rodriguez to control the bout.
“Yun po ang inaral namin ni coach Joven (Jimenez),” said the champion in a Facebook interview with SPIN.ph contributor Jhay Otamias.
He later offered the win to God and the Filipino people for supporting him in the fight.
Fighting out of MP Promotions, Ancajas improved his record to 26-1-1 with 17 KOs.
Rodriguez meanwhile, fell to 35-5, with 19 KOs.
