JERWIN Ancajas’ bid at winning a world title in a new division just suffered a major hiccup.
The former long-reigning IBF super-flyweight champion lost to undefeated American Omar Trinidad via unanimous decision at the Chelsea Ballroom of the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
Trinidad stays perfect
All three judges – Patricia Morse Jaman, Eric Cheek, and Chris Migliore – scored the bout 97-93 in favor of the 30-year-old native of Los Angeles, California, who improved his record to 21-0 with 14 KOs.
Trinidad is currently ranked No. 4 by the WBO.
For Ancajas, 34, the loss was his first since moving up to featherweight two years ago after struggling at bantamweight following his stunning ninth-round stoppage at the hands of Takuma Inoue for the WBA crown.

The defeat also spoiled Ancajas’ debut for promotional outfit Zuffa Boxing.
The Filipino fighter, who once reigned as world champion from 2016-2022, saw his record fall to 38-4 (25 KOs).
Until running into Trinidad, Ancajas had racked up four straight wins at featherweight including a fourth-round TKO of Mexican Ruben Antonio Garcia in California last April.
