JERWIN Ancajas and Jonas Sultan slug it out for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight crown next week in the first all-Filipino world championship fight in 93 years.
But hey, where's the title belt?
In a hurry to make its scheduled trip to Los Angeles last Tuesday, the camp of Ancajas forgot to bring the IBF belt.
Also left behind in Manila were the boxing short and cap the champion will wear on fight night of May 26 in Fresno, California.
"Naging busy na kasi sir dahil hinahabol nga namin ung flight. Naiwan sa sasakyan," said Ancajas trainer Joven Jimenez from LA.
But the belt and fighting gear will be brought along by a group leaving for LA on Thursday for the 12-round bout.
The oversight happened as the group of Ancajas came straight from the Italian embassy to the airport.
"Nag apply kasi kami ng visa for Italy. Naipit na kami sa embassy. Mabuti nga nakaabot pa kami sa flight," said Jimenez.
Ancajas is scheduled to proceed to Italy after the fight against Sultan where he will be honored by the IBF with a champion's ring.
Unfortunately, the group has yet to secure visas.
"Hindi pa namin alam kung tutuloy p kami, although may nag aayos na abogado naman para dun sa visa namin," said Ancajas' trainer-manager.
