JERWIN Ancajas scored a sixth round technical knockout of Miguel Gonzalez to retain his International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight title on Saturday in Puebla, Mexico (Sunday, Manila time).

The 27-year-old Filipino controlled the entire fight and had no trouble dispatching his challenger from Chile.

Ancajas was battering a hapless Gonzalez in the sixth round when the fight was waived off. Time of stoppage was at the 1:53 mark.

The Panabo, Davao Del Norte pride raised his record to 32-1-2 with 22 KOs, while successfully retaining his 115-lb crown for the eighth straight time.

Fighting just for the second time outside of Chile, Gonzalez saw his record fell to 31-3 (8 KOs).

Meanwhile in Brooklyn, New York, former world champion Marlon Tapales lost in his bid for the IBF interim junior featherweight title following a late stoppage against Ryosuke Iwasa of Japan.

Iwasa (27-3, 17 KOs) knocked down Tapales with a straight left, and though the Filipino managed to beat the count, he stood up with wobbly legs, prompting the referee to stop the fight at the 1:09 mark of the 11th round.
