WITH just two weeks remaining before the highly anticipated world title match with Takuma Inoue, Jerwin Ancajas is easing into the final stages of his preparations at the Survival Training Camp in Cavite.
Ancajas, along with his entourage, is scheduled to depart for Japan on February 18, gearing up for the showdown set to unfold on February 24 at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo.
Total focus for Ancajas
“Focus na focus na si Jerwin dahil pagsisikapan namin ulit na makapanalo ng world title,” said longtime trainer Joven Jimenez.
The title match was originally scheduled last Nov. 25 but was moved to a later date after the reigning champion, younger brother of undisputed super-bantamweight king Naoya Inoue, suffered a rib injury during training camp.
But even after the postponement, the former long-reigning IBF super-flyweight title holder only had a brief break before resuming his training during the holiday season.
Ancajas had the hard-hitting former world title challenger Vincent Astrolabio as one of his sparmates at training camp.
The 32-year-old native of Panabo, Davao del Norte initially trained in Las Vegas for the Inoue fight, but following the postponement, his team decided to return to the country and move training camp to Cavite.
Victorious Ancajas
The Filipino last fought in June of 2023, scoring a smashing fifth-round stoppage of Wilner Soto in Minnesota in his first foray as a bantamweight.
He currently holds a record of 34-3-2 with 23 stoppages.
Meanwhile, Inonue will be making the first defense of the 118lbs title which he won by unanimous decision over Venezuelan Liborio Solis last April.
The Japanese champion has an 18-1 record with 4 KOs.
