ANOTHER Filipino boxer sees action in the U.S. as part of a Golden Boy Promotions fight card in California.
James Bacon will test the mettle of undefeated Alexis Rocha in the undercard of the Jorge Linares-Javier Fortuna main event to be held behind closed doors at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino on August 28.
Bacon is the latest Sanman Promotions protégé to fight in the U.S. after Mike Plania and Mark Bernaldez.
The 30-year-old Cebuano has been on a comeback trail since last year and is a heavy underdog against Rocha, a rising welterweight being groomed to stardom by Oscar De La Hoya’s promotional outfit.
But Bacon, who formerly fought under ALA Promotions, vowed not to just roll over and die.
“I know they expect me to just lose to their boy. But they can’t look past me,” said Bacon in a statement sent by Sanman Promotions.
“I have experience on my side and I am still hungry for the title. A win could place me up the ranking and ensure bigger fights. I am a Filipino warrior. I am here to fight.”
Bacon carries a 23-4 record with 15 KOs. He won his first four fights coming back from a seven-year hiatus, before losing by unanimous decision to Irishman Darragh Foley in November last year.
The 23-year-old Rocha, a southpaw, meanwhile is unbeaten in 16 fights, 10 of them he scored by knockout.
