MACAU – Manny Pacquiao’s punching power was just too much for Chris Algieri.
The official CompuBox for the Pacquiao-Algieri welterweight title fight showed the complete disparity in the force and strength between champion and challenger.
The 35-year-old Pacquiao, one of the most devastating fighters of his era, connected on 46 percent of his power punches (187 of 410) while Algieri only connected on 34 percent (80-of-212).
“We started training camp several weeks earlier and worked on strength,” said Pacquiao regarding the renewed power in his punches. “We worked hard on the heavy bags more than a lot in years.”
Pacquiao was also more accurate with his shots by landing 229 out of the 669 punches thrown (34 percent).
In contrast, the 30-year-old Algieri only hit 108 of 469 punches thrown (29 percent).
Algieri was knocked down six times – twice in the sixth and ninth rounds - and lost by scores of 120-102, 119-103, 119-103.
