Hero's welcome to greet Pacquiao in GenSan arrival

    Nov 24, 2014

MACAU – A hero’s welcome is expected to greet boxing great Manny Pacquiao upon his return to the country late Monday afternoon following his imposing victory over Chris Algieri to retain the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title.

Pacquiao and his entourage of about 350 personnel will be leaving this former Portuguese colony by separate batches aboard two chartered Air Asia flights.

Along with wife Jinkee and his family, Pacquiao is going to board the first batch that leaves at around 1 p.m. for the three hour flight to GenSan. The second batch leaves by 3 p.m.

The 35-year-old Sarangani congressman will then be given a warm welcome as he makes his way around the province riding a makeshift float.

His arrival comes 24 hours after successfully defending his 147-lbs title belt against Algieri behind a lopsided decision fashioned out before a sellout crowd at the Cotai Arena here.

"He'll take a few days off as Manny will enjoy his family and have his birthday in December," said adviser Michael Konz of what's in store for the boxing champion in the coming weeks.
