GUILLERMO Rigondeaux finally came out swinging - on Twitter.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist mocked his opponent John Riel Casimero on social media following his defeat on Saturday (Sunday Manila time) in their WBA bantamweight title bout in Carson, California.
The Cuban fighter was widely criticized on social media for spending 12 rounds running and avoiding a skirmish, but soon turned the tables on Casimero on social media, saying that the Filipino fighter is “no Pacquiao” in his book.
“Congratulations to the Filipino fans. You have a great champion, his name is Pacquiao,” wrote Rigondeaux in a tweet that was obviously referring to Casimero, who retained his World Boxing Organization (WBO) title belt.
'My chin is still on my head'
He didn't complain about the decision but claimed pro boxing 'has never been fair to me.'
“’He won’ according to the judges, that is fine by me. Boxing has never been fair to me at the professional level. But he is no Pacquiao and my chin is still on my head.”
The 40-year-old fighter said he was expecting a fighter who will dominate him, but claimed the opposite happened as he pointed to Casimero's failure to put him away.
“I am not going to make excuses for anything. I was expecting a guy ready to blow my chin away and sent me to retirement,” said Rigondeaux. “But I am not a picture on a bag. I can actually box. I learned before becoming a champ back in Cuba.
“No one has to make me a champion or give me anything. You can point fingers at my style all you want but everything I got I fought for it. Nothing was given,” said Rigondeaux.
