LAS VEGAS – Former two-time world champion Gerry Penalosa will be doing a commercial shoot for a leading vodka brand together with former trainer Freddie Roach.

Penalosa said the one-day shoot for American Eagle vodka will be held on Wednesday (Thursday, Manila time) at the Top Rank gym shortly after boxing star Manny Pacquiao concludes his afternoon training for the Juan Manuel Marquez fight.

According to the 40-year-old retired title-holder, the commercial is all about the theme `brothers in the corner’ that centers around the relationship between a trainer and his boxer.

Roach once handled Penalosa when he vied for the World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight crown.

For appearing in the commercial, Penalosa will be paid US$10,000.

“Nagulat na nga lang ako tinawagan ako nung agency tungkol nga doon sa project,” said the one-time WBO bantamweight and World Boxing Council super-flyweight king.

“Kahit nga $1,000 lang payag na ako, `yung $10,000 pa kaya.”

Asked why it was him and not Pacquiao who was signed up for the commercial, Penalosa said with a laugh, “baka mahal si Manny.”

“Siyempre, may laban si Manny kaya dapat medyo pahinga siya.”

The most celebrated boxer in the Penalosa boxing clan, Gerry believes Pacquiao needs to connect on a series of combinations if he is to win his Saturday (Sunday, Manila time) showdown with Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez.

Penalosa stressed such style is the best way to offset a noted counter-puncher like Marquez.

“Dapat sunud-sunod ang combination ni Manny para mahirapang mag-counter si Marquez,” said the native of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental who retired with a ring record of 55-8-2, with 37 KOs.

Otherwise, Penalosa fears another inconclusive result like those in previous Pacquiao-Marquez fights.
