    Gabuco, Petecio, Macado clinch gold in Indonesia slugfest

    Philippines wins overall title in Kapolri Cup boxing tournament

    THE Philippine boxing team took home three gold medals in the 2nd Kapolri Cup Boxing International Open Tournament in Indonesia.

    Female boxers Josie Gabuco and Nesthy Petecio ruled their respective divisions, while Ramel Macado added a gold in the men’s division as the Philippines also got one silver and two bronzes on its way to winning the overall title and the US$5,000 incentive (around P267,000).

    Gabuco wrested the gold in the women’s light flyweight division after beating Endang, 5-0, while Petecio hurdled Yuong Thi Vy of Vietnam, 4-1, in the women’s featherweight class.

    Macado overcame Cornelos K. Wangu Langu, 4-1, to clinch the gold in the men’s light flyweight division.

    Rogen Ladon, a 2016 Rio Olympian, bowed to Ryuseu Baba of Japan, 3-2, and settled for the silver medal in the men’s flyweight class.

    Irish Magno and Ronald Chavez Jr. delivered the other two bronze medals for the Philippines.
