AS expected, WBO has stripped Floyd Mayweather of the welterweight title.

Mayweather holds the WBA and WBC welterweight and super welterweight titles and had earlier declared he will relinquish the WBO belt he claimed when he beat Manny Pacquiao in May in a fight dubbed as the “Fight of the Century.”

Mayweather did not give up the title, however, and WBO's deadline to pay the sanctioning fee has lapsed, according to ESPN.

"The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title for failing to comply with our WBO regulations of world championship contests," espn quoted the WBO.

Timothy Bradley, who beat Jessie Vargas for the interim welterweight title, is expected to now take over as champion.
