LAS VEGAS – Is this really Floyd Mayweather, Jr.?
After beating Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night (Sunday, Manila time), Mayweather continued to say all the right things, urging Filipinos around the world to keep on supporting their beloved hero who he called ‘one hell of a fighter.’
“To all Filipino fans, keep supporting Manny Pacquiao,” Mayweather, a boxer long known for his brash behavior and personal trouble outside the ring, called out as his post-fight press conference was coming to a conclusion.
Projected as boxing’s bad boy today, the 38-year-old Mayweather earned the ire of Filipino fight fans for time and again stalling a long-awaited showdown with Pacquiao in negotiations that started way back in 2009.
But since finally agreeing to meet Pacquiao in the ring, the unbeaten champion from Grand Rapid Michigan has nothing but kind words for the Filipino boxing icon and his legion of fans.
“He’s one hell of a fighter who represents the Philippines extremely well,” stressed Mayweather, who sported a cool shirt with his super-imposed on a Pilippine flag during the media day he held two weeks before the title match.
