WITH the advent of open boxing, Charly Suarez could be the first Filipino professional fighter to suit up for the national team in an international competition..
The Filipino Olympian is reportedly set for a comeback with the Philippine men's boxing team for the coming 30th Southeast Asian Games which the country will be hosting from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
Suarez turned pro in November of last year and has three fights under his name, the last of which came in the undercard of Johnriel Casimero's world title fight against Mexican Cesar Ramirez three weeks ago.

Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) secretary-general Ed Picson said nothing is cast in stone yet on Suarez's national team comeback.
"We're considering it pero hindi pa kami nag-finalize," he said in a text message.
But Suarez and a handful of national team members left for Winnepeg, Canada on Tuesday to participate in a dual meet with Canada. Accompanying the team is coach Nolito 'Boy' Velasco.

A SPIN.ph source bared that should Suarez makes a comeback it could be at the 60kg division after previously going up at light-welterweight during the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he salvaged a bronze medal.
Suarez bombed out in the opening round of the 2016 Rio Olympics after losing by split decision to Joe Cordina of Great Britain in the lightweight class.
