EUMIR Marcial failed in his bid to win the world title after a defeat to Gleb Bakshi of Russia in their middleweight clash in the Aiba World Boxing Championship 2019 in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
Marcial lost via unanimous decision over Bakshi, who sent the Filipino boxer to the canvas in the second round with a left hook to the jaw.
Three judges had Bakshi at 29-28, while two saw the fight, 29-27.
Marcial was looking to become the first Filipino to win the world championship since its inception in 1974. Instead, he becomes the third Pinoy to win the silver after Roel Velasco in 1997 and Harry Tanamor in 2007.
Marcial beat six fighters on his way to the gold medal match including a victory over second-ranked Tarik Allali of Morroco in the second round.
