KIA playing-coach Manny Pacquiao has something special in store for the Carnival as they try to make one final push for a maiden playoff appearance in the PBA.
Team manager Eric Pineda said Pacquiao, currently training in Los Angeles for his May 2 super fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr., is aching to see the team make the playoffs that he has prepared a ‘secret’ for the team that could have been revealed had the team won against NLEX Wednesday night.
“Kaya nga nakalagay sa board namin (inside the dugout), 'If you win this game, I will reveal this secret.' The secret will be revealed kapag nanalo, kasi ako lang ang may alam,” said Pineda moments following the Carnival’s 102-86 loss to the Road Warriors.
The Team Pacquiao executive, who regularly communicates with Pacquiao through overseas calls, disclosed two secrets are actually waiting to be revealed, with one of them supposed to be divulged with a win over NLEX.
Unfortunately, that will have to wait.
“Dalawang secret iyan eh. So kung nanalo kanina, most likely, we make it to the quarterfinals na. Tapos, meron pang isang secret 'yun, kung pumasok sa semis,” he added.
The loss relegated KIA to a tie for 10th spot with Barako Bull at 4-6, but the Carnival will have one last chance to know what the 'secret' is about when they play Barako Bull in a do-or-die showdown on Sunday.
Asked if the ‘secrets' had something to do with bringing the entire team to Las Vegas to watch Pacquiao’s highly-anticipated title showdown against Mayweather, Pineda was non-committal.
“Kaya nga secret,” a smiling Pineda said. “Hopefully, we can bounce back sa next game.”
KIA defensive ace Mark Yee hopes the ‘secret’ is all about a major cash windfall for the Carnival.
“Malamang marami-raming pang-gatas at pan-gdiaper 'yun, kaso lang di nakuha yung panalo, kinapos,” said Yee with a tinge of regret after seeing KIA waste an 11-point, third-quarter advantage against NLEX.
“Pero wala akong kaide-idea dun. Si boss lang ang nakakaalam.”
