LONDON Olympian Mark Barriga will miss the Southeast Asian Games and a stint in the Aiba Pro Boxing league as he sits out the next three months with an injured right hand.

Barriga had earlier felt the pain went continued training and only recently was it discovered that he had injured a knuckle and will have to undergo surgery.

“Barriga will not play for the next three months,” he said. “’Yung pinakamaliit na knuckle sa kanang kamay lumubog,” said Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (Abap) executive director Ed Picson on Tuesday.

“Dati pa niya nararamdaman ’yan kaya lang noong pinakita namin kay Dr. Ida Tacata kailangan na operahan,” Picson added.

The boxing official said two other doctors ordered surgery the earliest possible time.

“Siguro kasama na rin sa training ‘yan, wear and tear na rin,” he added. “May ligament na naputol kailangan ikabit.”

Barriga bagged the bronze in the Asian Games in September last year in Incheon, South Korea.
