CAN the most powerful person in the country convince Manny Pacquiao to retire?

President Rodrigo Duterte advised his fellow Mindanao native that he should finally ride off into the sunset following his seventh-round TKO win over Lucas Matthysse on Sunday in Malaysia.

“I said he is 39,” Duterte said in an ambush interview after the fight that the President graced in Kuala Lumpur.

“Not because he cannot win or lose, but I’d like to see my friend rest on his laurels at this time and enjoy life. He has so much money already,” the Davao native said of the pride of General Santos City.

Gabriel Pabico Lalu of Inquirer.net reported the President’s statement.

Pacquiao has been shrugging off talk of retirement, a topic that appeared to lead to the separation from longtime trainer Freddie Roach, with the Pacman reportedly bothered after his trainer suggested to Yahoo Sports after his fight with Jeff Horn that Pacquiao should retire.
