DONNIE Nietes said he is glad to be an inspiration to Filipinos, including fellow athletes, as he joined Spin.ph’s Sports Heroes of 2015 during the Sportsman of the Year awards night on Saturday at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Hotel.
Nietes, a world champion for eight straight years, was given the award in the category Sportsmen Who Personify the Filipino Fighting Spirit.
The WBO light flyweight king traveled from Bacolod on Saturday to join the awardees led by Sportsman of the Year Calvin Abueva and sports executive Manny V. Pangilinan, who was given the award in the category Sportsmen Who Make It Happen.
