NONITO Donaire Sr. will return to his son's corner for the upcoming rematch with Vic Darchinyan in November after the two reconciled their differences.
In a radio interview by Aksyon Sports on Radyo Singko 92.3 FM, the elder Donaire said his son has asked him to join the ring hero in training during a lengthy talk after seeing his grandchild Jarel Michael recently.
Kaya sabi niya, magsama uli tayo,” said Donaire Sr. in an interview with radio hosts Dennis Principe and Ron Delos Reyes.
Donaire Sr. was credited with the early success of his son that included a shocking fifth-round technical knockout of Darchinyan in 2007 to win the International Boxing Organization and the International Boxing Federation light flyweight crown.
But the father-and-son tandem had a falling out as Donaire Jr.’s climbed up the pound-for-pound list.
Donaire Sr. said that it was a great feeling talking to his son and his wife Rachel as well as seeing his grandchild.
If plans push through, Donaire Sr. said he will join his son in training camp next week where he will be bringing in one of his boxers in Marvin Mabait.
“Para may ka-sparring siya. Kaliwete siya, may tulong kay Junjun,” said Donaire Sr.
