LAS VEGAS – 'Pacman' is definitely bringing the house down. And it’s not Manny Pacquiao the boxer, but the adorable Jack Russell Terrier dog owned and named after the Filipino boxing superstar.
The energetic breed of small terrier which has been with Pacquiao since 2008, never fails to generate attention whenever he’s around especially in the presence of his celebrated master.
The 35-year-old Pacquiao said `Pacman’ may not be as lovable as a shih tzu or as intelligent as a poodle or a German Shepherd, but he has his own unique way that easily endeared him to many, especially those close to the former eight-time world champion.
In the years the dog has stayed in the Pacquiao household, `Pacman' has learned to do a few simple tricks which the Sarangani congressman demonstrated in front of people who gathered around him inside his suite at the Mandalay Bay.
“Nakakaintindi siya ng mga command kahit paano, like sit, stay, and stand up, “ disclosed Pacquiao, a 2-1 favorite in his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title rematch this weekened against reigning champion Timothy Bradley at the MGM Grand here.
The white-bodied, brown coated dog of fox hunting origin which runs around without let-up inside the big room, usually accompanies the three-time Fighter of the Year in his early morning jogs, be it in the US or back home.
But what endeared 'Pacman’ to his master is his penchant to readily snarl at people whom the boxing champ would point at in an instance.
‘Basta tinawag ko siya `Pacman’, tapos tinuro ko `yung tao, sigurado magagalit na agad yan,” he said, while repeatedly trying to point at people in front of him that elicited a minor growl from the six-year old dog.
As a sign of appreciation to his ever loyal pet, Pacquiao later gave `Pacman’ a soft body stroke and a warm hug before letting him off to have a sumptuous dinner.
