MANNY Pacquiao and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum will sit down next week to discuss whether a rematch will be made against reigning welterweight champion Timothy Bradley or other options are considered for his scheduled ring return in November.
The country’s boxing pride said he has yet to discuss his next move with Arum in light of the findings by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) that he was the clear winner of his 12-round title match with Bradley two weeks ago.
“Hindi pa kami nagkaka-usap ng promoter ko tungkol sa susunod kong laban,” said Pacquiao in a GMA News interview from Sarangani province.
Pacquiao and Arum are set to meet in Los Angeles by next week. Both of them are eyeing a possible fight on Nov. 10.
Pacquiao's statement came hours after the WBO announced the result of the personal scoring made by a five-man international panel of judges commissioned by the boxing body to review his controversial showdown with Bradley. Although unnamed, all five judges had the Filipino southpaw winning by scores of 117-111, 117-111, 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113.
Bradley won the match via a stunning split decision, receiving the nod of two judges (CJ Ross and Duane Ford) by similar scores of 115-113, while losing in the other one (Jerry Roth) who scored it 115-113 for Pacquiao.
WBO president Francisco `Paco’ Valcarcel said the boxing body can’t overturn the judges’ decision, but certainly can order a rematch.
There is already a rematch clause in the contract, but Arum said the final decision still rests in Pacquiao at this time appears leaning towards a return bout with the unbeaten American.
“Willing ako na mag-rematch, para makita ng mga tao kung sino talaga ang panalo,” were Pacquiao’s fighting words.
In the event a second fight with Bradley fails to materialize, a possible fourth encounter with longtime rival Juan Manuel Marquez is the next best option. Top Rank president Todd DuBoef admitted that a meeting with the durable Mexican had been cast in stone had Pacquiao won over Bradley.
“My first stop on any quest to determine what to do next is that I have to talk to the guy who is the money generator, and that's Manny Pacquiao,” said Arum over RingTv.
“And I have to then determine after discussions with him what he wants to do next and we’ll go from there. Until Manny makes a determination, then I'm like a dog chasing its tail,” added the veteran promoter.
