CRIZTIAN Pitt Laurente settled for the bronze after losing to Uzbekistan rival Abdumalik Khalovok in the semifinals of the AIBA Youth Women’s and Men’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
The 18-year-old Filipino lost to Khalokov, 5-0, in their 56 kg (bantamweight) match on Tuesday.
Laurente also lost by the same score to the Uzbek during their gold medal match in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok early this year.
Nonetheless, with Laurente reaching as far as the semis meant the four-man Philippine team won’t be going home medal-less in the meet that featured more than 400 boxers, 18-years-old-and-below.
With Laurente in the team are his brother Russo, Melinino Anduyan, and Jima Beja. Coaches are Pat Gaspi anf Elias Recaido.
Khalokov will be facing in the final Vsevolod Shumkov of Russia.
Shumkov beat Noppharat Thakhui of Thailand in the other semifinal bout, 4-1.
