INCHEON, Korea — Charly Suarez defeated Ammar Jabbar Hasan via unanimous decision on Monday in the lightweight quarterfinal round to assure the Philippines of at least a bronze medal in Asian Games boxing.
Suarez got the nod of all judges to make it to the semifinal round where he will meet Obada Mohammad Mustafa Alkasbeh of Qatar on Thursday at the Seonhak Gymnasium.
Otgondalai Dorjnyambuu of Mongolia takes on Satoshi Shimizu of Japan in the other semifinal pairing.
Suarez’s win made up for Ian Clark Bautista's controversial loss to a Korean foe on Saturday and setbacks suffered by women boxers Josie Gabuco and Nesthy Petecio.
