FILIPINO John Riel Casimero failed in his bid to wrest the International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight title after losing a unanimous decision to champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand Saturday night at the Indoor Stadium of the National Sport Centre in Bangkok.
The 25-year-old Casimero went down in Rounds 2 and 7 of the 12-round match that was filled with a lot of clinching and holding.
The champion was even deducted a point in Round 11 for excessive holding to the challenger.
Ruenroeng, a former Olympian and World Championship bronze medalist, improved his record to 16-0, with 5 KOs in his mandatory defense of the IBF flyweight belt.
Casimero, the former IBF light-flyweight title holder, fell to 21-3, with 13 KOs.
