THE camp of former world champion Johnriel Casimero agreed to push through with his 10-round non-title featherweight bout with Luis Nery, but the Mexican will have to make weight again on the day of the fight in Nagoya, Japan.
The arrangement was made after Nery failed to make the catch weight of 124 pounds during the official weigh-in on Friday at the Aichi Tokoname, Aichi Sky Expo.
Nery officially came in at 127.4 pounds even after an hour of sweating the excess poundage.
Casimero on the other hand, tipped in at 123.4 pounds.
Meanwhile, the Japan Boxing Commission is also set to impose a six-month ban on Nery after the Casimero match for failing to make the weight.
It’s the second time the Mexican will be punished by the JBC after imposing an indefinite suspension on him for the same blunder during his rematch with Shinsuke Yamanaka for the WBC bantamweight crown in 2018.
The lifetime ban was later reversed, paving the way for Nery’s unification title fight against Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue.
The 31-year-old southpaw shouldn’t weigh in excess of 134 pounds on the morning weigh-in of the fight.
Nery sports a 37-2 record with 28 KOs, while Casimero, 37, and a three-time world champion, carries a 35-5 record spiked by 24 KOs.
