CARLO Paalam defeated Omid Ahmadisafa of Iran via unanimous decision to rule the light flyweight division of the 2018 Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok.
It was a big win for the 20-year-old Paalam, a bronze medalist in the Aiba Youth World Boxing Championships, a month before the Asian Games.
All judges scored the bout, 30-27.
Paalam beat Ryusei Matsumoto of Japan, Samak Saehan of Thailand, and Tu Po Wei of Chinese Taipei on his way to the gold medal match.
James Palicte settled for a silver medal in the lightweight division, bowing to Seeteep Anu of Thailand.
Thailand won three gold medals in the tournament, while Mongolia had two.
The Philippines and South Korea each had one.
