CHARLY Suarez won’t be able to defend his Southeast Asian Games lightweight boxing title after being declared a late scratch in the official Philippine delegation lineup.
Reports reaching the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee SEA Games Task Force said Suarez suffered an injury that will prevent him from competing in Myanmar.
A separate source, however, said he had to attend to family matters.
Taking the place of Suarez is Junel Cantancio.
Suarez won one of four gold medals won by the boxing team in the 2011 edition of the SEA Games.
In all, the country won 36 gold medals in Indonesia two years ago.
