Four-division world champion Canelo Alvarez is heavily favored to prevail over rising star Edgar Berlanga when they square off on September 14 in a megafight to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.
Like Cinco De Mayo, September 14 is a traditional fight date for the Mexican superstar who sports a 64-2-2 record. Berlanga, a knockout artist from Brooklyn, New York, totes an equally impressive 22-0 record with 17 KOS.
Canelo a -1400 favorite
The oddsmakers have installed Canelo as a -1400 favorite, meaning a bet of $1400 on him wins only $100. Berlanga, meanwhile, is a +1000 underdog, which means a $100 bet on him will get a $1000 windfall.
As expected of an Alvarez pay-per-view offering, the tickets to attend the title bout at the 20,000-seat T-Mobile Arena at the famous Vegas strip are super expensive.
The cheapest tickets for this event is priced at $300 or roughly P16,875. Floor seats range from $6000 to $10,000 or roughly P337,000 to P562,500.
During his heyday, eight-time division champ Manny Pacquiao used to command such steep ticket prices. His May 2015 showdown with Floyd Mayweather netted an estimated $500 million in revenue.
