JADE BORNEA has reached the semifinals of the Aiba World Youth Championships on Tuesday in Yerevan, Armenia.
Bornea, seeing action in the 49 kilogram class, beat Jack Samuel Bateson of England 16-12 to continue to carry the fight for the Philippines after the early exit of world junior champion Eumir Marcial.
Ian Clark Bautista is set to battle Kurt Walker of England in the quarterfinals 52 kilogram division after outpointing Ham Sangmyeong, 20-12.
Bornea earlier beat Banabakov Tinko Rosenov of Bulgaria, 19-10, in the round of 16.
Marcial was outclassed in the 60 kilogram division by Zatorsky Michal of Slovakia, 7-11, failing in his bid to defend his crown he won last year in Astana, Kazakhstan.
