WHILE gladdened by reports of a possible Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. superfight in September, the brother of the Filipino boxing icon would rather wait for the deal to be finalized.
Bobby Pacquiao told Spin.ph he has gotten wind of internet reports quoting a source who declared that “Floyd (Mayweather) and Manny Pacquiao will be fighting in 2014 guaranteed and it’s already done.”
The younger Pacquiao, however, insisted the report definitely didn't come from their camp, pointing out that the 'Pacman's' planned Christmas trip to the US to seek out Mayweather didn't push through.
The global ring icon has instead sent his business adviser Michael Koncz to handle the negotiations, but Bobby pointed out that the Canadian only left the country on Wednesday.
“Maganda kung totoo yun. Pero hindi sa amin galing yun,” said Bobby, who once fought as a lightweight.
Pacquiao said the Sanangani congressman's camp has yet to receive any word from Koncz.
Originally, the Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown was lined up for the second quarter of the new year, but it is unlikely to push through on the pencilled date as Mayweather has already been negotiating with the camp of Amir Khan for his scheduled May 4 ring return.
Pacquiao on the other hand is set to return to the ring on April 13 against a still unknown opponent.
For the moment, the eight-division world champion is taking a much-needed rest in Sarangani.
“Sa ngayon rest pa si Kuya. Pero kung biglang lumipad ng Los Angeles yun, ibig sabihin may development na - Mayweather o kung sino next opponent niya,” said the younger Pacquiao.
