TOP Rank Promotions’ Bob Arum quietly slipped to the country on Friday to meet with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.

The 86-year-old Arum arrived via a private jet and went straight to General Santos City to hook up with his former fighter.

It was the first personal meeting between Pacquiao and Arum since the two parted ways following the loss of the boxing icon to Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Australia last year to yield his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title.

Arum contended Pacquiao, who turns 40 four months from now, remains under a promotional contract with Top Rank, a claim which the Filipino senator disputed and led to him promoting his last fight against Lucas Matthysse of Argentina in Kuala, Lumpur, Malaysia. Pacquiao won the bout via a seventh round stoppage to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) version of the 147-lbs. title belt.

Pacquiao’s future was discussed by both parties, with Arum owning the promotional rights on two star fighters who are the next potential Pacquiao opponent in lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko and welterweight WBO welterweight title holder Terrence Crawford.

The fighting pride of General Santos City has long showed interest in taking a fight against Lomachenko, although his camp has also been pushing for a possible showdown with former sparring partner Amir Khan, Danny Garcia, and Keith Thurman.

Arum’s arrival comes at a time when British promoter Eddie Hearn has expressed huge interest in signing up ‘The Pacman.’

Hearn, who heads Matchroom, admitted holding initials talks with the only boxer to win eighth world titles in as many divisions.

“He’s undoubtedly towards the end of his career, but still a huge name. We’re talking with him.”
