Top boxer Barriga fine after health scare

Olympic boxer back in the pink of health after bout with amoebiasis
Aug 28, 2012

FILIPINO Olympic boxer Mark Anthony Barriga has been released from a local hospital in Panabo City after suffering from amoebiasis while on vacation.

Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines executive director Ed Picson said Barriga spent only one day in the hospital after complaining of stomach pains and assured that the young fighter will soon be back in the gym.

Barriga took a break from training for a vacation in his hometown after he competed in the 2012 Olympics. He bowed out of contention for a medal when he lost to Birshan Zhakypov of Kazakhstan in his second bout in London.

Still 19, Abap said Barriga has a bright future ahead and he is being primed for the 2016 Rio De Janeiro Games.
