Baguio, two others punch way to gold medal wins in PNG boxing tilt

BAGUIO, Mandaluyong, and La Union claimed two gold medals each at the close of boxing competitions in the 2015 Philippine National Games (PNG) at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Renner Metra beat Jose Perez of Tayabas via technical knockout in the second round to highlight Baguio City’s gold coffers of which Fernal Gaspi, nephew of national head coach Pat Gaspi, also contributed by beating Billy Joe Torres via unanimous decision in the elite men’s light flyweight category.

Adrian Lerasan scored a unanimous decision over Ariel Enriquez in the junior boys light flyweight category, while Mark David Lontayao won over Reymark Sanchez of Olongapo via split decision in the elite men’s light welterweight class for Mandaluyong’s pair of golds.

La Union also collected two gold medals through Lawrence Ordonio, who defeated Christ John Tizon of Rizal Technological University via unanimous decision, and Melvin Jakaran, a walkover winner over Roland Plaza of Mandaluyong.

Other gold medal winners were Marvin Caribay of Anda, Pangasinan (junior boys bantamweight), Marlon Arteta of Quezon (junior boys featherweight), Sherwin Andes of Sorsogon (youth boys light flyweight), Reynan Lojera of Rizal Technological University (youth boys flyweight), and Anecito Padillo Jr. of San Pedro (elite men’s flyweight).

In sepak takraw, Eulogio ‘Amang’ Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (Earist) swept the men’s and women’s regu competition held at the Marikina Sports Complex.
