TOP Rank promoter Bob Arum vows to be at the Wild Card gym to personally see the conditioning progress of boxing star Manny Pacquiao in training camp once sparring starts on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).
The 33-year-old Filipino will spar with regular partner Rey Beltran and Ruslan Provodnikov of Russia for six rounds, which Arum does not intend to miss after getting infuriated with Pacquiao’s decision to defer by two more weeks his scheduled US training for a December 8 fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.
Pacquiao arrived in California just last Saturday, but already reported for training Monday as he finally hooked up with trainer Freddie Roach for the first time since losing a controversial 12-round split decision against Timothy Bradley last June.
The three-hour workout was held behind closed doors, and included a full 12 rounds on the mitts with Roach.
The `Pacman’ also did his usual workout at the speed ball, skipping rope, and heavy bags, before capping the training with the regular crunches and abdominal exercises.
Earlier in the day, the charismatic boxer turned congressman from the lone province of Sarangani, ran at the Hollywood Hills for his morning road work and seemed to be in fine form, according to Pacquiao publicist Fred Sternberg.
The eight-time world champion has made up for the delay by starting strength conditioning and training in General Santos City with longtime friend and corner man Buboy Fernandez. Pacquiao also sparred a few times but against a badly outclassed sparmate in Rocky Marcial.
