MACAU - American Chris Algieri may be marketed as a real-life 'Rocky,' but that doesn't necessarily mean Sylvester Stallone is on his side.
The Hollywood superstar who played the role of the iconic rags-to-riches boxer in the popular 'Rocky' movies dropped by Pacquiao's suite at the Venetian on Saturday afternoon to extend his well-wishes to the Filipino champion ahead of the Algieri fight.
The two, however, never got to talk since Pacquiao was leading a 5 p.m. bible study when Stallone dropped in.
“Umalis siya agad eh,” said a source from Team Pacquiao. “Nakita niya kasi maraming tao, kaya hindi na siya nagtagal.”
Here's a video of Stallone's visit to Pacquiao's suite:
Another source told Spin.ph that Pacquiao and Stallone finally got to talk over the phone, with 'Rocky' reportedly assuring Pacquiao that his heart is with the reigning WBO welterweight champion even if he is supposed to be on Algieri's side.
Though he admits being a fan of Algieri, it is common knowledge that Stallone has been a Pacquiao fan since he demolished Emmanuel Lucero to retain his IBF superbantamweight (122-pound) belt.
In 2009, Stallone even considered Pacquiao to become part of his star-studded movie 'The Expendables,' which has seen spawned a sequel. Both movies turned out to be box-office hits.
Stallone and fellow Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenneger are here in Macau to add glitz to the Pacquia-Algieri fight at the Cotai Arena in Venetian Hotel.
