LAS VEGAS — The president of boxing’s world governing body Aiba wished Manny Pacquiao good luck as the Filipino battles Floyd Mayweather Junior on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time).

In his letter to Pacquiao, whom he called as “Boxer and My Hero” on the letterhead, Ching-Kuo Wu praised the Filipino boxing icon’s resilience and dedication to the sport.

“With a true hope that this letter will be delivered to you before your match tomorrow evening, I would like to send you my heartfelt congratulations on your invaluable accomplishment for having recently touched the hearts of the global boxing family,” said Wu, who is at the Aiba headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“I am not too impressed by the historical financial records surrounding this match; however, I am touched by your precious personal values which continuously put our sport in another level. It is my dream to develop the young generation of boxers into great athletes like you. You are realizing my dream by being the greatest role model of millions of youth boxers looking up their life goals,” he added.

“I feel confident that I will see your amazing smile after the bout this coming Saturday night,” he said.

Wu also added: “All of us in the International Boxing Association are learning from you how a boxer could become the greatest legend in all global sports. A victory will just be another addition to the achievements undertaken in the history of the sport you always loved.”

The Aiba regulates important amateur boxing competitions including the Olympics and Asian Games and has recently also been building a professional league for boxers.
