Merwin Tan, seven other Filipinos seeing action in World Youth Bowling Championships in Hong Kong

EIGHT Filipino junior bowlers will participate in the 13th World Youth Bowling Championships set August 6 to 15 at the South China Athletic Association Bowling Center in Hong Kong.

Merwin Tan, 14, who bagged two bronze medals in the 15th Asian Schools Bowling Championship in Jakarta in February, heads the Philippine team in the tournament featuring bowlers from 40 countries.

Also seeing action are Janine Kuwahara, Ivan Dominic Malig, Kherwin Ren Cremen, Ariel Young, Xyrra Patrize Cabusas, Christelle Peig and Anne Bernandette Ipapo.

The Philippine team hopes to finally end the country’s medal long medal drought in the tournament. RJ Bautista won bronze medal in 1998 edition in Incheon, Korea, with the last gold and silver medals won b by Angelo Constantino in 1992 in Caracas, Venezuela.

The team will be joined in Hong Kong by coaches Josephine Canare and Edmundo Florencio.
