LIZA Del Rosario put herself in position for another women’s open masters crown after finishing second in round one of the Philippine International Open Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Coronado Lanes in Mandaluyong City.
The reigning champion rolled an eight-game series of 1679 to take second spot behind Singapore’s Jermaine Seah, who had a 1700 after the first round.
Gilliam Lim of Malaysia and national youth standout Bea Hernandez had 1616 each to also move into the second round against Lara Posadas-Wong, Dyan Coronacion and 2017 World Cup champion Krizziah Tabora.
“They have been playing well. In the finals, it’s really anybody’s ballgame,” said Del Rosario, who will be retiring from the national team after this year’s Southeast Asian Games. “The stakes and pressure are higher in the finals, the adjustments harder. You have to show up with your best on that particular day.”
In the men’s open masters finals, defending champion Sam Cooley and Basil Ng of Singapore had 1843 share the lead entering the second round.
Kenneth Chua of the Philippines and Jaris Goh of Singapore have already advanced to the finals of the competition organized by the Philippine Bowling Federation and backed by Pagcor, Café Puro, Prima Pasta, Boysen Paints, the Linden Suites and Philippine Sports Commission.
