THE Philippines opened its campaign in the World Pool Team Championship with a 5-1 thrashing of Bulgaria in Group A on Monday in Beijing, China.
The team of Dennis Orcollo, Lee Vann Corteza, Carlo Biado, and Rubilen Amit defeated the quartet of Stanimir Dimitrov, Radostin Dimov, Lyudmil Georgiev, Kristina Zlateva in their first match in the event which offers an US$80,000 cash prize to the champion.
The Filipino pool artists will also play United States and Poland in the group stages.
A total of 25 teams comprised of three men and a lone woman player are seeing action in the tournament.
The players will compete in 8-ball men’s doubles, 8-ball men’s singles, 9-ball women’s singles, 9-ball men’s singles, 10-ball mixed scotch doubles, and 10-ball men’s singles.
