ARTHUR Dela Cruz and Ola Adeogun came up big late in the fourth quarter, converting baskets inside the paint as San Beda won 80-76 over Far Eastern University on Saturday in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at The Arena in San Juan
Dela Cruz had 18 points while Adeogun added 15 markers for the Red Lions as the duo broke a 66-66 tie with a 10-2 run down the stretch on their way to their third win in four outings.
The Red Lions, playing for the first time since returning from their Los Angeles training, are now in second place behind the undefeated National University (8-0).
“I’m happy with the guys, they just came back Wednesday and we just practiced as a team on Thursday,” Fernandez said. “We are just happy that we got out with the win.”
Adeogun hit back-to-back baskets that increased San Beda’s lead to 74-68. Dela Cruz also hit a fadeaway shot with 2:15 left in the fourth.
RR Garcia nailed back-to-back triples but Dela Cruz hit another basket off an assist from Baser Amer, 78-74.
Trailing 76-79, FEU had a chance to cut the deficit to one after Mark Belo stole the ball. However, he missed an open lay-up leading to split charities by Adeogun, 80-76.
Garcia had 23 points, hitting 4-of-9 from behind-the-arc. Mike Tolomia had 13 of his 15 points in the first half for the Tamaraws. Terrence Romeo only played in the second half and finished with eight points.
FEU, which evened its record to 3-3, was able to tie the game in the fourth at 62 and the game was still deadlocked at 66 before the Red Lions run.
