Rubilen Amit bags first 9-ball world title in New Zealand

RUBILEN Amit is once again a world champion after bagging the WPA Women’s World 9-Ball Championship in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Amit beat Siming Chen of China, 1-4, 4-2, 4-2, 4-3, to bag her third world title - but first in 9-ball. She previously captured the world championship in 10-ball twice.

She also took home USD 50,000 for winning the 9-ball crown sanctioned by the World Pool-Billiard Association and organized by the Predator Pro Billiard Series.

She reached the final in a tight contest against Kristina Tkach, winning the final two sets, 2-4, 4-3, 2-4, 4-1, 4-1. Amit also won in the quarterfinals in five sets, defeating Wei Tzu-Chien of Chinese Taipei, 0-4, 4-0, 4-0, 1-4, 4-2.

The 42-year-old Amit also beat compatriot Chezka Centeno, 4-0, 4-1, 1-4, 4-2, in Round 1 of the knockout stage.

Amit actually came from the losers bracket when she was beaten by Chen Chia Hua, two sets to one, but still made it to the knockout stage with wins over Gemma Schuman of Australia, Yu Han of China, and Chou Chieh-Yu of Chinese Taipei.
