EFREN ‘Bata’ Reyes and Earl Strickland renew their rivalry when they face off in the made-for-TV ‘Battle of Legends’ duel from January 14 to 16 in New York.
Reyes and Strickland duel for the US$100,000 top prize in their first one-on-one match-up in 13 years, which will see the two pool icons face off in the 8-ball, 9-ball, and 10-ball events over three days.
The events will be a race-to-17 affair and will be shown on pay-per-view.
Reyes and Strickland have fought memorable battles in tournaments and battled each other in one-on-one high-stake matches two previous times - with the Filipino 'Magician' winning both times.
Reyes, who told Spin.ph on Friday that he plans to retire from the sport in two years, defeated Strickland, 120-117, in their first encounter in the ‘Color of Money I’ in 1996 held in Hong Kong.
Reyes and Strickland played against each other once again in 2001 in the ‘Color of Money II’ with the Filipino pool legend also emerging as the winner.
American Strickland, dubbed as ‘The Pearl’ in the world of pool, gained prominence for his fast and deadly shotmaking as well as enigmatic character.
