Efren 'Bata' Reyes stayed in the hunt for a finals seat with an 11-9 win over countryman Ronnie Alcano.

POOL greats Efren "Bata" Reyes and Dennis Orcollo arranged an all-Filipino showdown as both stayed in the hunt for a berth in the finals of the 37th US Open 9-Ball Championship at the Holiday Inn Virginia Beach in Virginia on Friday (Saturday, Manila time).

The 58-year-old Reyes the former world 9-ball champion, stayed in the hunt for the title as he fashioned out an 11-9 win over compatriot Ronato Alcano in their do-or-die match in the losers’ bracket.

The 40-year-old Alcano rallied from a 5-8 deficit and tie the score at 9-all in the 18th frame, before Reyes swept the next two racks for the win.

Orcollo, meantime, bundled out fellow Filipino Jose "Amang" Parica, 11-4.

The winner between Reyes and Orcollo will face the loser of the match between Alex Pagulayan and Shane Van Boening for the last finals slot in the $170,000 tournament.

Pagulayan and Van Boening square off for the first finals berth in the hot-seat match of the winners’ bracket.

The champion will receive $25,000.
