PH title hopes dashed after woeful Amit loss

THE Philippine campaign in the Yalin World 10-Ball Championship ended with a whimper on Friday night when Rubilen Amit dropped a lopsided 8-2 decision to in-form L. H. Shan of Chinese Taipei.

Amit never had a chance in the round-of-16 match at Robinsons Galeria as Shan, who went undefeated during the preliminaries of Group Eight, completely dominated the Filipina 2009 champion.

Amit had earlier defeated compatriot and 13-year-old Chezka Centeno, 8-5, in the first round of the knockout rounds to set the stage for a showdown with Shan.

Unfortunately, the Filipina failed to get going against her Taiwanese opponent.

Amit, a many-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist, failed to duplicate her quarterfinal finish last year in this same tournament.

Iris Ranola, the other Filipina in the event, bowed out as early as the group stages.
