THE Philippines will have a lean delegation for the World Pool Association-sanctioned China Open set to open on Thursday in Shanghai, China.
Dennis Orcollo and Lee Vann Corteza, fresh from an early exit from the World Cup of Pool in Manila, are two of the three Filipino cue artists who will compete in the men's 9-ball event offering WPA ranking points.
Carlo Biado is the other Filipino entry in the men’s division while Rubilen Amit and Iris Ranola will compete in the women’s division.
Orcollo is bracketed in Group F with Li Hewen and Wang Ming of China, Vaic Zbynek of Russia, Jason Klatt of Canada, Yang Ching-shun of Chinese Taipei, Nick Van Den Berg of the Netherlands and Andreas Gerwen of Sweden.
Group G is composed of Corteza, Marcus Chamat of Sweden, Albin Ouschan of Austria, Naoyuki Oi of Japan, Liu Zheng-chieh, Fu Che-wie and Chen Ying-chieh of Chinese Taipei and Do Hoang Quan of Vietnam.
Biado is included in Group E with Filipino-Canadian Alex Pagulayan, Ko Pin-yi and Hsu Kai-lun of Chinese Taipei, Mike Dechaine of the United States, Nick Ekonomopoulos of Greece, Dang Jinhu of China and Alok Kumar of India.
Reigning world 9-ball champion and current world No. 1 Darren Appleton, Ralf Souquet and Thorsten Hohman are also seeing action.
Amit is in Group A along with Fu Xiaofang, Wu Tzi-Ting, Gao Meng, Nicola Rossouw and Wei Tzu-Chien, while Ranola is in Group H with Chen Siming, Jiang Teng, Chai Zeet Huey, Caroline Roos and Pan Xiaoting.
