Rubilen Amit sparks last-day charge as Team Asia retains Queens Cup title
Rubilen Amit and Team Asia celebrate the close victory.

RUBILEN Amit towed Team Asia to a 10-7 win over Team West on Saturday night in the 2015 Queens Cup billiards tournament at the Resorts World Manila.

Amit beat Vivian Villarreal, 4-1, to help Team Asia win their final three matches and retain the crown after Team West made a brave last stand in Day Three of the 10-ball format tournament.

Amit, Siming Chen, and Jennifer Chen beat Ewa Laurance, Karen Corr, and Villarreal, 4-0, while also bagging the 4-on-4 to hold off a comeback try by Team West.

“To be honest, I was really very, very nervous," said Amit, the skipper of Team Asia. "I really wanted to win it for the crowd and for my teammates. Very nerve wracking."

Leading 7-4, Team Asia actually got off to a slow start in Day Three as Eunji Park lost to Karen Corr, 4-2. Park and Jennifer Chen were also blanked by Corr and Barretta, 4-0. Corr won the final three racks of her match with Siming Chen, 4-3, for a 7-7 tie.

Amit, a two-time world 10-ball champion, also took advantage of two miscues by Villarreal on her way to victory in the singles match. Villarreal scratched with only the 10-ball remaining in the third while failing to convert on the 9-ball in the following rack, allowing Amit to reach hill.
