THE much-anticipated first showdown between rivals Ateneo and La Salle this year in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup has been moved back to its original playdate of June 1 and will be played not at the Mall of Asia Arena but at The Arena in San Juan.
Filoil Cup organizers had earlier announced that the highly anticipated game had been moved to June 2 at the MOA Arena and will be played right after the 'Dream Game' that will pit players from Ateneo and La Salle players who are now in the PBA.
The move apparently fell through.
“Due to the availability of teams, the Ateneo-De La Salle game shall proceed as originally scheduled on June 1, 4 p.m. at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan City,” said Filoil organizers in a short statement.
A source, however, told Spin.ph that the planned merger of the two games failed to push through because rival television networks ABS-CBN and TV5 could not agree on telecast arrangements for the matches.
ABS-CBN airs the Filoil Cup games while TV5 has the rights to air the games of PBA, whose players will be featured in the Dream Game.
The June 1 matches will also feature the Ateneo-De La Salle match in the women’s division at 11 a.m. and the match pitting Adamson against San Beda in the varsity division at 2 p.m.
Tickets are prized at P500 for ringside, P350 for lower box, and P200 for upper box and will be available at SM Tickets, the Ateneo athletics office, and DLSU-Office of Sports Development starting on May 24.
Tickets will also be available at The Arena in San Juan during game day.
