UNIVERSITY of the East rode on the broad shoulders of Charles Mammie as it trampled Emilio
Aguinaldo College, 97-66, to get back on the winning track in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Pre-Season Cup at The Arena in San Juan on Friday.
Mammie asserted himself inside with 23 points and 11 rebounds as the Warriors raced to an early 25-15 lead and never looked back.
“(It was just my) mindset to focus on the game,” said Mammie, the Red Warriors' center from Sierra Leone.
The Red Warriors have now evened their record at 2-2 as they bounced back from a stunning 87-89 loss at the hands of San Sebastian last Wednesday.
“The sign of a good team is when they bounce back (from a loss),” said UE coach Boyzie Zamar.
Jay-Ar Sumido had 15 points, while Roy Sumang chipped in 11 and JM Noble 10 for UE, which led by as many as 74-48 at the end of the third period.
Sherwin Castro finished with 12 points, while John Tayontong and Jan Jamon had 11 and 10, respectively, for the Generals who remained winless in three outings.
